Microsoft Surface RT vs ASUS Vivo Tab RT


With popular tablet makers launching a gamut of devices, enthusiasts have much reason to rejoice. Microsoft recently unveiled its Surface tablets – Surface Pro and Surface RT. Joining in the race of Windows 8 powered tablets is ASUS, one of the top 5 tablet makers, who launched its Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT.

ASUS is an established name in the tablet business; however, with the Surface range of tablets, Microsoft will be foraying into the ever-expanding tablet market. Tablet fans will be eagerly waiting to see if the company can deploy its best in the tablet arena.

Here’s a look at what ASUS and Microsoft have on offer for their Vivo Tab RT and Surface RT tablets.

The Surface RT is expected to boast a 10.6-inch screen with 1366×768 resolution, compared to the 10.1-inch IPS+ display with 1366×768 resolution of the Vivo Tab RT. The existence of Super IPS+ technology in the Vivo Tab RT will provide users with high display clarity both indoors and outdoors.

The Vivo Tab RT will feature the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 12-core GPU for high quality mobile graphics performance. The Surface RT has the NVIDIA Tegra-based ARM chip.

Storage Capacity
The Surface RT will be available in 32/64 GB on-board storage options, while Vivo Tab RT will only have 32GB of internal storage. Both tablets will have the option to expand the memory to an additional 32GB using a microSD card and will also have USB connectivity.

The Vivo Tab RT sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats. The Surface RT will include a front- and a rear-facing HD camera; however, Microsoft is yet to confirm the information.

Weight and Thickness
The Surface RT will weigh 676gms and will be 9.3mm thick. The ASUS Vivo Tab RT, on the other hand, will be 8.3mm thick and weigh 520gms.

Keyboard and Battery
Vivo Tab RT boasts a full QWERTY keyboard dock, track pad, and built-in battery. The standout feature of the Vivo Tab RT is the additional battery on the dock which will allow users extended productivity. On the other hand, the Surface RT offers the users a choice of two screen covers, which attach magnetically and fold down to reveal a keyboard. According to the Microsoft Web site, a 31.5 watt hour battery will power the device.

Both Microsoft Surface RT and ASUS Vivo Tab RT pack impressive features to entice tablet fanatics. Time will tell if Microsoft will be able to establish a stronghold in the hotly-contested tablet domain.
